Accused Stalker Questioned: 'But Imagine I Might Be Madeleine?'
A individual accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and information retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another phone message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I am she? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I just want to know," she added.
The panel was told that via emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the information, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On that date, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in that winter.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the months preceding the visit to that location, that area, in that winter.
The court was told communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing trying to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We need to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which said: "We are sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings proceeds.
